I have found there are two components to help me be kinder to myself during stressful times:

  1. Prevention

  2. Intervention

To prevent my brain from automatically shaming, battering, or criticizing myself for having negative emotions, I work on finding fondness and admiration for myself.

To build tools to successfully intervene when I do experience a negative emotion, I practice self-compassion skills.
